Opera Mini 5 Beta Now Available For Download!

Opera Mini 5 Beta Launched!

Just the other day we reported Opera Mini 5 may be coming soon to your BlackBerry and turns out soon, meant really soon. As of now you can grab the new version from the Opera web site (visit m.opera.com/next from your berry's browser) and check out all the new features within Opera Mini 5 Beta. Rather then me talking about how great or bad it is at this point, it's probably best if you just download it and check it out for yourselves and make the determination on how you personally feel about it. But just to give you all an idea of what to expect here is a quick list of what's new.

  • Tabbed browsing-Browse several Web sites at the same time. Jump easily from one to another.
  • Speed dial-Your favourite sites are just one click away. (Similar To Safari's new UI)
  • Touch & Keypad-The interface optimizes the display for both touchscreen and keypad phones.
  • Password manager-Log on to your email, social network and other sites with just one click.

I'm positive you all will find many other new features not really mentioned so sound off in the comments. Let us know what you think about the new Opera Mini 5 Beta, especially all you Storm owners out there considering the forums are filling up with people saying it will not work with their Storm. I find this rather odd since all the promo material used at this point shows it working on a BlackBerry Storm, most users would expect if the images used are that of the Storm -- it would work on it right?

BlackBerry 9700 Hardware And Software Quick Look!

This time around we get a nice look at the BlackBerry 9700 up close and personal compared to the Bold and Tour. The 9700 has been getting plenty of love these days on the internet as it has been popping up all over the place - the only thing left to do is sit back and wait for its launch. Sometimes knowing and seeing that this stuff exists, is worse then not knowing cause now the wait for the imminent launch is killing me.

Top 10 Best And Worst Devices For Cellular Radiation

A little back Kevin did a review for an application called RadGuard and while at the time we had some fun with it on the post and on the podcast a new report could possibly explain why eveytime Kevin tried to use his BlackBerry with the app installed it set off the radiation alarm. A non-profit research and advocacy firm called Environmental Working Group has done testing and ranking on over 1,000 cellular phones to determine their SAR ratings and share that information. While studies are still being conducted on the actual effects the radiation maybe a few preventative measures wouldn't hurt. Especially considering two BlackBerry devices made the top 10 worst list.

10 best phones (Low Radiation)

1. Samsung Impression (SGH-a877)
2. Motorola RAZR V8
3. Samsung SGH-t229
4. Samsung Rugby (SGH-a837)
5. Samsung Propel Pro (SGH-i627)
6. Samsung Gravity (SGH-t459)
7. T-Mobile Sidekick
8. LG Xenon (GR500)
9. Motorola Karma QA1
10. Sanyo Katana II

10 worst phones (High Radiation)

1. Motorola MOTO VU204
2. T-Mobile myTouch 3G
3. Kyocera Jax S1300
4. Blackberry Curve 8330
5. Motorola W385
6. T-Mobile Shadow
7. Motorola C290
8. Motorola i335
9. Motorola MOTO VE240
10. Blackberry Bold 9000

Take from that what you will. Personally, I have no concerns over the cellphone radiation levels and I say let the FCC worry about it, but that's just me. You can head on over to the groups site for the full list.

FaceBook 1.7 Coming Soon, Bringing OS 5.0 Compatability With It?

Ahh, FaceBook. The RIM built application users love ... and hate. Word is that FaceBook version 1.7 is coming soon and this time around the release (or leak?) will cover one major problem that all leaked OS users have been seeing for a while - OS 5.0 compatability Ever since OS 5.0 started leaking, some users have upgraded it to it, only to revert back to a lower OS based on the fact FaceBook simply just does not work on 5.0. From the information available, it seems this will no longer be the case as 5.0 and FaceBook 1.7 will work together.

This indicates a few things, of course first being obvious that FaceBook 1.7 is coming soon and that OS 5.0 is just that much closer to being completed if RIM is putting more effort into their own secondary applications working on it. Other details on FaceBook 1.7 are slim, but we'll keep you posted.
